Use Remy
Import conversation history
Bring another agent’s local conversations into Remy.
Scope: The steps below use the desktop app.
Remy can read other coding agents' conversations stored on your computer. Review a conversation, then create a Remy copy to continue working. The original records remain read-only and are not changed.
1. Before you start
This guide covers history from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and grok-build.
- The records must be stored on this computer. This feature reads local history.
- To continue work on the original project, you need access to its project folder.
- The copy in Remy does not include tool results, reasoning, or attachments. Provide those materials again if the task needs them.
2. Turn on history access
- Open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Settings.
- Select Imported history.
- Turn on Read history from other agents.
- Under Sources, turn on the sources you want to read.
- Wait for the scan and check Imported conversations.
The main switch and each source switch are off by default. Turning on the main switch still requires you to choose individual sources.
3. Find and read a conversation
- Return to the sidebar and find a conversation with a source label.
- To narrow the list, use Source in the sidebar's filter menu.
- Open the conversation and check its task and project.
At this point, you are viewing the external conversation as a read-only record. You cannot send another message into that original record.
4. Make a copy and continue
- Click Continue in Remy at the bottom of the conversation.
- Wait for Remy to create and open an editable copy.
- Provide the current project state, missing material, and next steps before continuing execution.
You can start with this prompt:
Summarize the goal and remaining work from this conversation, then read the project's current files.
Check whether the conclusions in the history still match the files.
If attachments, tool output, or necessary context are missing, list what you need me to provide.
Analyze only for now. Do not edit files, install dependencies, commit, or push code.
History describes earlier work. The project may have changed since then. Check the actual files before deciding whether to continue the old approach.
5. If history is missing or you cannot continue
| Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
| No external history appears in the sidebar | Check that the main switch and the source switch are on, wait for the scan, and check the Source filter |
| A source shows Not installed or no conversations | Check whether that agent's records are stored on this computer. Records on another device will not appear here |
| Could not read history appears | Keep the error message and check access to the records. Send feedback if the issue persists |
| Continue in Remy is unavailable because no project folder was recorded | This record cannot be copied through this entry. Start a new chat in the correct project and provide the necessary background yourself |
| Earlier results or attachments are missing from the copy | Tool results, reasoning, and attachments are not copied. Add what the task needs before continuing |
6. Stop reading a source
Return to Settings → Imported history and turn off the source. To stop reading all external sources, turn off the main switch.
Turning off history access does not replace managing Remy copies you have already created. It is also not an action for deleting the original agent's records.
7. Keep exploring
- Desktop Guide: Add a project and inspect its files.
- Branch a conversation: Explore another approach from an existing Remy chat.
- FAQ: Review history import and branching limitations.
